What’s Your Golden Buzzer Moment?

By Dan Klein, CEO

Sometimes when you’re working hard during the week – whether it’s running your own company or working in another organization, day to day challenges may take away from being able to shine in your own way. If you’ve watched Britain’s or America’s got Talent you may be familiar with the Golden Buzzer. If you haven’t seen this before just go to YouTube and type in Golden Buzzer and you will see what I’m going to be talking about. These two shows have thousands of contestants and a very small amount receive the coveted Golden Buzzer. By receiving this the contestant goes directly through some of the future qualifying rounds and ensures that a they make it to the live performances later on in the show.

So why am I bringing this up you may ask? A Golden Buzzer moment is when the universe aligns with a stellar performance and usually after some difficult and challenging road for each contestant. These don’t just happen, and to aim for getting a Golden Buzzer isn’t something a contestant would usually do, they just need to get the judge’s approval, so it’s not a necessary step to move forward in the competition. What stands out about watching people get Golden Buzzers is that you will see contestants who are passionate about what they do and it shows. For many, they are just doing what they love and showing their unique performance abilities.

Here are some observations about Golden Buzzer winners:

At the start if every performance they are nervous, really nervous. They’re on stage in front of the judges and an audience, and very out of their comfort zones. In your work life, this could be that big presentation or prospect meeting – or just having that conversation you’ve been avoiding. These are opportunities to show your greatness.

Many have been treated unfairly by others because of their amazing talents. If you’re great at what you do mediocre people get nervous. Whether that’s a boss or your coworkers, some people have nothing to gain unless they bring you down. Being different, talented and passionate about what you do is awesome – don’t hide those super-skills.

You can clearly tell that they are passionate about what they are doing. Even the smallest tasks during your day are moments of opportunity to show everyone your unique talents. Positive, dedicated people are the ones that really make a difference.

For a lot of entrepreneurs, the people around them don’t see the journey and it may often seem like they’re waiting for you to get a “real job”, the same can be very true for people who often hide their superpowers in larger corporate settings as well. If you want your business to grow significantly you need to shine and although there’s not panel of judges watching you – go get your Golden Buzzer! In order to get extraordinary results in business you need to let people see how talented you really are. This will help attract more talented people to be around you in the future.

And in closing, these Golden Buzzer moments are really inspiring to watch, here are a few of my favorites – enjoy!
